It's been quite a while since I last posted up Scriptures. I'm sorry about that. I did figure that I would continue where I left off. But this time, I'll give the Scriptures on how we should speak to others to balance out what was posted last. These will be very helpful in knowing what to answer or how to answer regardless of the commentaries made/directed towards a Christian. =)
Proverbs 15:23---A man finds joy in giving an apt reply---and how goo is a timely word!
1 Peter 4:11---If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God
**How this alone would keep us from saying anything we shouldn't!** =)
Proverbs 16:23-24---A wise man's heart guides his mouth, and his lips promote instruction. Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.
Proverbs 12:14---From the fruit of his lips a man is filled with good things as surely as the work of his hands rewards him.
Proverbs 20:15---Gold there is, and rubies in abundance, but lips that speak knowledge are a rare jewel.
Psalms 37:30---The mouth of the righteous man utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks what is just.
Ephesians 4:25---Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body.
Ephesians 4:29---Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
I know it's just a few I put this time. But they are very powerful when followed. Let us always build each other up in kindness and love and speaking what is right always. =)

Small Changes
I wish I had time to do this every day, but I suppose I knew it wouldn't be as such so that's why I put it up from the beginning that it would only be 1 or two times a month I'd post stuff up. But a couple of weeks ago, I was told by another blogger that the Bible should be taught with harmonious teachings. And he's right. Here I was trying to learn one subject at a time, but the point he made was a generously true one. You can't understand the whole of it if you only look at half. So from here on out, whenever I post something, it won't be a whole lot of the one subject, it'll just be broken even further up so that way I can include two teachings at once. If I didn't word this understandably, I apologize, I'm just really tired since this is the middle of my night and can't figure out how to word it better, so I shall instead give an example of what I'm talking about.
I have last posted up what Christians should not do in speaking with others, I should ALSO have included how they SHOULD speak.
I hope that clarifies what I'm trying to say. Next weekend off I hope to actually post scriptures again.

Gossip, Slander, and Rash speaking
This one is a major biggie. For ALL of us, to this day. I acknowledge that I still find myself speaking before thinking and it isn't a kind word or thought, or gossiping about someone's life(style) that I have no right to speak on. We all do it, and that's why I chose to put it up. I for one, want to work on this, and it's really hard for me. I also know many friends who do these things as well so now that the subject has been broached, we can help encourage one another to stop these things, even if it is mid-sentence. And pray for God's guidance. To give the broader scope on this, here are the definition terms for each category.
Gossip-
1: Idle talk or rumor, esp. about the personal or private affairs of others
2: Rumor or talk of a personal, sensational, or intimate nature
3: A person who habitually spreads intimate or private rumors or facts.
Slander-
1: A malicious, false, and defamatory statement or report
2: Oral communication of false statements injurious to a person's reputation.
Rash-
1: Acting or tending to act too hastily or without due consideration.
2: Characterized by or showing too great haste or lack of consideration.
Here are some Scriptures. Keep in mind that when you read "foolish," it is the 'rash' parts I'm posting up.
I also switched over to the NIV from the KJV for easier reading for some friends who aren't too keen on Old English.
Proverbs 17:7---Arrogant lips are unsuited to a fool--how much worse lying lips to a ruler!
Proverbs 26:28---A lying tongue hates those it hurts, and a flattering mouth works ruin.
Proverbs 15:1-2---A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes folly.
Proverbs 26:4-5---Do not answer a fool according to his folly, or you will be like him yourself. Answer a fool according to his folly, or he will be wise in his own eyes.
**This one might take a bit of explanation for those who are confused. What it means is don't answer folly WITH folly, but give a gentle rebuke so that way you are not being rash in your own speech and being a fool too, but give an answer that will show them that what they say was without consideration.**
Leviticus 19:16---"Do not go about spreading slander among your people. Do not do anything that endangers your neighbor's life. I am the Lord."
1 Samuel 2:3---Do not keep talking so proudly or let your mouth speak such arrogance, for the Lord is a God who knows, and by him deeds are weighed.
Matthew 5:33-37---"Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, 'Do not break your oath, but keep the oaths you have made to the Lord.' But I tell you, do not swear at all: either by heaven, for it is God's throne; or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. Simply let your 'Yes' be 'Yes' and your 'No,' 'No'; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.
**This one is VERY important. How many times have you said or heard someone else say "I swear man, I swear to God." or "I swear on my mother's life it's true!" Jesus said DON'T!!**
Colossians 4:6---Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
Titus 2:7-8---In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.
James 5:12---Above all, my brothers, do not swear--not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. Let your "Yes" be yes, and your "No," no, or you will be condemned.
1 Peter 4:11---If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.
There are more that I will do later when I have the time, but this is it for now.

Rebuke (part 2 of Admonish)
This is just a continuation of scriptures that support our gentle admonishing of each other to keep Christians from going astray. Please read the "Admonish" post first. Thanks! =)
Ecclesiastes 7:5-6---It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools. For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, so is the laughter of the fool: this also is vanity.
Proverbs 27:5---Open rebuke is better than secret love.
2 Timothy 4:2-3---Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but afer their own lusts shall they heap to hemselves teachers, having itching ears.
Titus 1:10-13---For there are many unruly and vain talkers and decievers, specially they of the circumcision: Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake. One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are always liars, evil beasts, slow bellies. This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith.
Proverbs 9:7-9---He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot. Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee. Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.
Proverbs 13:1---A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.
Proverbs 19:25---Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge.
Proverbs 24:25-25---He that saith unto the wicked, 'Thou art righteous'; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him: But to them that rebuke him shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them.
Proverbs 28:23---He that rebuketh a man afterwards shall find more favor than he that flattereth with the tongue.
Leviticus 19:17---Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke they neighbor, and suffer sin upon him
Luke 17:3---Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent forgive him.

Admonish

Too many times when we don't want to hear something uncomfortable we hide in our box and shut out what's being said. Christians and non Christians alike have all at one point or another used the "stop preaching until you can be less sinful yourself" and "remove the plank from your own eye before trying to remove the mote from mine" cards.
These are tactics used to shut someone up, but they shouldn't be used at all. There is a massive difference between judging someone and admonishing. And to admonish is very much sanctioned by God.
What is Admonish? The dictionary terms are:
To reprove gently but earnestly.
To counsel (another) against something to be avoided; caution.
To remind of something forgotten or disregarded, as an obligation or a responsibility.
To reprove gently but earnestly.
To counsel (another) against something to be avoided; caution.
To remind of something forgotten or disregarded, as an obligation or a responsibility.
A question you might get:
I've never seen it said anywhere that you should rebuke me for anything I've done, especially when you too are a sinner, so why are you trying?
Answer you may give:
If we had to wait until we were no longer sinners before opening up our mouths to "preach to another when they do something", then only Jesus would have been allowed to speak, and the word of God would not have been passed down because we wouldn't have the right to utter a single word.
The Scriptures that justify the use of Admonishing each other to help each other grow are:
Romans 15:14 "And I myself also am persuaded of you, my brethren, that ye also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another."
Colossians 3:16 "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord."
2 Thessalonians 3: 14-15 "And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed. Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother."
All of these show that God does want us to point out to each other when something is done wrong, not to judge, because if we don't correct an error, and if that person believes it is alright to keep erring, it may bring about something more dire. We are to keep each other encouraged in love and gentleness and take great joy when we are kindly rebuked, because it shows they care enough for us to let us know we do wrong, even if we don't want to hear it.
What this blog is about
Hello fellow Christians and those who are curious about Christianity. I decided to do this blog because in the last 6 months, I've painfully become aware of something drastic and very important. Many Christians do not know more than the basics. I was one of these, and I admittedly have a long ways to go before I can consider myself "heavily knowledgeable" in my religion.
Q: What do you mean many Christians don't know more than the basics?
A: Growing up, I was taught about God, and how he had sent His beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to us to die on the cross and become our Saviour. I knew that Moses led his people out of Egypt and parted the Red Sea, I knew that Job was tested by God, I knew that Jonah was in a big fish/whale for three days, I knew we all sin and need Jesus for our forgiveness. Any Christian knows these things. But what about the rest? How many know what Judaic Law consists of? How many know what Jesus said other than John 3:16? I've looked around and have found out that the majority of Christians (myself included) couldn't answer more than the basic questions. It's a very scary thought to think. So I felt I would start out a topic once a week or month, and go into detail about each thing. Then hopefully we can all learn together the fullness of what Jesus taught and what God's word encompasses.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
